Contest Rules

Entry and Registration

No purchase necessary; free entry. No cost for registration. The contests and sweepstakes are open to legal residents of the United States (excluding Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands) and Canada who are 18 years of age or older as of their date of registration.

Void where prohibited by law. Contest begins at the first post time on September 16, 2017 and ends at the end of live racing on October 29, 2017.

To enter the contests (the "Contest") for a chance to win the sweepstakes for the Grand Prize, go to www.nyra.com/showdown and complete the electronic registration form. Each entrant must provide first and last name, e-mail address and create a password.

No faxed, electronically mailed, U.S. postal service entries or phoned-in entries allowed.

Limit: One registration per person (regardless of whether one person has more than one e-mail address). Duplicate registrations for the Contests are cause for disqualification of all involved entries.

It is the sole responsibility of the entrant to notify The New York Racing Association, Inc. ("NYRA") in writing if the entrant changes his/her e-mail address: To do so, please write to: The New York Racing Association, Inc. Attention: Belmont Showdown P.O. Box 90, Jamaica, New York 11417.

NYRA and its sponsor(s) assume no responsibility for lost, late, misdirected, illegible or mutilated entries. NYRA is not responsible for lost, interrupted or unavailable hardware or software or technical failures, or jumped transmission or other errors of any kind, whether human, mechanical or electronic. Once submitted, entries become the sole property of NYRA and will not be returned.

Eligibility

The following are ineligible to participate: officers and employees of NYRA or any members of their immediate families; trainers, jockeys and their agents; backstretch workers of horses wherever stabled or running; and persons under the age of 18.

How to Sign Up

There is NO entry fee to participate. To register, the entrant must complete the electronic entry form. Each entrant will get an email that verifies entry into the Belmont Showdown within one hour of completing the sign-up process. Entrants may review their selections and standings on Belmont Showdown webpage.

Entrants must use their Belmont Showdown Profile information for sign-up and daily selections in the Belmont Showdown. Entrants with Belmont Showdown Profiles with non-functioning email addresses will be eliminated.

The sign-up process for the Belmont Showdown has four steps:

  1. Profile
    Enter your username and password in the contest section of the Belmont Showdown Main Page.
  2. Profile Verification
    Verify the basic information in your Profile - Email Address, First Name, Last Name, Date of Birth and the subscription or non-subscription to publicity email lists - and input additional information: Mailing Address, City, State/Province, ZIP and Telephone Number.
  3. Official Rules Acknowledgement
    Entrants must agree to abide by these official rules (the "Official Rules") for the Belmont Showdown.
  4. Display Name
    Select a Display Name. This is the name that will be listed in the leader board.

How to Play

Every Saturday and Sunday live race day during the 2017 Belmont Fall Race Meeting (September 8, 2017 through October 29, 2017), NYRA will announce which one (1) of the following three (3) contest formats that are being played on the applicable day on the Belmont Showdown website. There are three different contest formats. There will only be one contest format per race day.

The three contest formats are:

Win Place Show Contest ("WPS Contest")

NYRA will announce on the Belmont Live! Show and on the Belmont Showdown website the races chosen for that day’s WPS Contest. Contestant will log into the Belmont Showdown website and select one horse for each race included in that day’s WPS Contest. By selecting a horse, Contestant is placing a mythical $5 Win, Place, and Show bet on each horse selected. Those contestants with either the largest mythical winnings ("Bankroll) of each race and/or at the end of each day will receive one (1) entry into a sweepstakes to win the Grand Prize (the "Sweepstakes"). In addition to the one (1) entry into the Sweepstakes, the Contestants with the largest Bankroll at the end of the day will win 50,000 NYRA Bets points, which are redeemable for use on NYRABets.com.

Exacta Contest

NYRA will announce on the Belmont Live! Show and on the Belmont Showdown website the races chosen for that day’s Exacta Contest. Contestant will log into the Belmont Showdown website and select three horses for each race included in that day’s Exacta Contest. By selecting a horse, Contestant is placing a mythical $2 Exacta Box bet on the horses selected. Those contestants with either the largest Bankroll of each race and/or at the end of each day will receive one entry into the Sweepstakes. In addition to the one (1) entry into the Sweepstakes, the Contestants with the largest Bankroll at the end of the day will win 50,000 NYRA Bets points, which are redeemable for use on NYRABets.com.

The Works Contest

NYRA will announce on the Belmont Live! Show and on the Belmont Showdown website the races chosen for that day’s The Works Contest. Contestant will log into the Belmont Showdown website and select three horses for each race included in that day’s The Works Contest. By making his/her selections, Contestant is placing a mythical $2 Win bet on each horse selected, a mythical $1 Exacta Box bet on the selections, and a mythical $0.50 Trifecta Box bet on the selections. Those contestants with either the largest Bankroll of each race and/or at the end of each day will receive one entry into the Sweepstakes. In addition to the one (1) entry into the Sweepstakes, the Contestants with the largest Bankroll at the end of the day will win 50,000 NYRA Bets points, which are redeemable for use on NYRABets.com.

The number of races available to play in each Belmont Showdown varies by contest day. Please refer to the Belmont Showdown website each day to see which races are covered.

How to Win

  • The Contestants with the largest Bankroll on each race will win one (1) entry into the Sweepstakes.
  • The Contestants with the largest Bankroll at the end of the day will win one (1) entry into the Sweepstakes and 50,000 NYRA Bets points redeemable for play at NYRABets.com.
  • After October 29, 2017 and before November 4, 2017, NYRA will randomly select one (1) Grand Prize winner from all of the entries in the Sweepstakes.

Prizes

Contestants with the largest Bankroll on each race will win one (1) entry into the Sweepstakes.

Each Contestant with the largest Bankroll at the end of each day will win 50,000 NYRA Bets points redeemable for play at NYRABets.com.

One (1) entrant into the Sweepstakes will win a VIP Package to Belmont Stakes Day 2018, which will include one $500 airfare credit, two (2) seats, two (2) programs, food and merchandise, with a total value of up to $2,000 (the "Grand Prize"). The winning entrant will be contacted within 10 days after the sweepstakes ends via e-mail and will be required to complete an affidavit of eligibility, waiver and release and a W-9 IRS Form before receiving the Grand Prize.

In the event of unavailability of any prize, NYRA reserves the right to substitute a prize of equal or greater value, as will be determined in NYRA’s sole and absolute discretion.

Tiebreakers

In the event that there is a tie, all of the contestants with the largest Bankroll for the race and/or day as applicable will win one the applicable prize (i.e., entry into the Sweepstakes and/or 50,000 NYRA Bets points as set forth above).

In the event an entrant's selection is a late scratch or declared a non-starter for pari-mutuel wagering purposes, the entrant will receive the actual betting favorite in that respective race.

In the event the entrant selects a horse that is part of a coupled entry or mutuel field, the entrant will receive both horses in the coupled entry. The entrant will only get credit for the best finisher. For example, if horse one (1) and horse one A (1 A) finish first and second respectively, the entrant will only get credit for a "Win".

Entrants cannot make more than one selection in any one race day using the WPS Contest. Entrants cannot make more than or less than two selections in any one race day using the Exacta Contest or The Works Contest. Selections are final.

Selections must be placed by the contestant only at the Belmont Showdown Website. The entrant is solely responsible for ensuring that his or her selection is correct. No changes will be made once deadline is passed (10 minutes before the first offered race).

Entrant does not need to play every contest day. Each contest day is treated as a new contest.

In the event all races are cancelled in one contest race day, the entire contest will be cancelled for that day and no contestant will get credit. In the event one or more races are cancelled in one contest race day then the Highest Bankroll – Single Day contest will be cancelled. Only the Highest Bankroll – Single Race contest will apply to the non-cancelled races.

Any unforeseen circumstance will be judged by NYRA. All rulings are final.

General Conditions

The laws of the United States govern this contest. All Federal, State, provincial and local laws and regulations apply. By entering, participants release and hold harmless, NYRA, its sponsors, subsidiaries, affiliates, directors, trustees, officers, employees and agents from any and all liability for any injuries, loss or damage of any kind arising from or in connecting with any prize won. Winners are subject to all State and Federal Tax Requirements.

Conduct

These Official Rules will post on NYRA’s contest website: Belmont Showdown throughout the contest. By entering, the entrant agrees to be bound by these official rules and the decisions of NYRA, which shall be final and binding in all respects. Further, by entering, the entrant acknowledges that it will be subject to NYRA’s current website Terms & Conditions and Privacy Policies, as may be updated from time to time.

NYRA and its sponsors reserve the right to, at their sole discretion, disqualify any individual that: tampers or attempts to tamper with the entry process or the operation of the contest or website; violates the official rules; or acts in a disruptive manner, or with intent to annoy, abuse, threaten or harass any other person.

Notification

Winners will be notified by e-mail within 10 days after the date the winners are determined. Winners may be required to sign and return an affidavit of eligibility and acceptance of these official rules and a publicity/liability release (unless prohibited by law) within 5 business days following attempted notification.

By accepting any prize (including, without limitation, an entry into the Sweepstakes), the winner grants permission to NYRA use their names and/or likenesses for publicity and promotional purposes without further compensation, unless prohibited by law and agree to execute a written consent upon request.

In the event of a dispute about the identity of any entrant, entries made online will be declared made by the authorized account holder of the e-mail address submitted at the time of entry. "Authorized account holder" is defined as the natural person who is assigned to an email address by an Internet access provider, online service provider or other organization too is responsible for assigning email address for the domain associated with the submitted email address. A potential winner may be required to provide the sponsors with proof that the potential winner is the authorized account holder of the email address associated with the winning entry.

Judging and Disputes

NYRA reserves the rights to interpret all questions and conditions in regard to this event, without claim for damages or recourse of any kind. All questions and definitions not covered explicitly in these rules will be decided by NYRA with those decisions to be final.
