Contest Rules

Entry and Registration

No purchase necessary; free entry. No cost for registration. The contest is open to legal residents of the United States (excluding Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands) and Canada who are 18 years of age or older as of their date of registration.

Void where prohibited by law. Contest begins at the first post time on December 2, 2017 and ends at the end of live racing on December 2, 2017.

To enter the contest (the “Contest”) for a chance to win NYRA Bets points redeemable for play on NYRABets.com, go to www.nyra.com/showdown and complete the electronic registration form. Each entrant must provide first and last name, e-mail address and create a password.

No faxed, electronically mailed, U.S. postal service entries or phoned-in entries allowed.

Limit: One registration per person (regardless of whether one person has more than one e-mail address). Duplicate registrations for the Contest are cause for disqualification of all involved entries.

It is the sole responsibility of the entrant to notify The New York Racing Association, Inc. (“NYRA”) in writing if the entrant changes his/her e-mail address: To do so, please write to: The New York Racing Association, Inc. Attention: Showdown P.O. Box 90, Jamaica, New York 11417.

NYRA and its sponsor(s) assume no responsibility for lost, late, misdirected, illegible or mutilated entries. NYRA is not responsible for lost, interrupted or unavailable hardware or software or technical failures, or jumped transmission or other errors of any kind, whether human, mechanical or electronic. Once submitted, entries become the sole property of NYRA and will not be returned.

Eligibility

The following are ineligible to participate: officers and employees of NYRA or any members of their immediate families; trainers, jockeys and their agents; backstretch workers of horses wherever stabled or running; and persons under the age of 18.

How to Sign Up

There is NO entry fee to participate. To register, the entrant must complete the electronic entry form. Each entrant will get an email that verifies entry into the showdown within one hour of completing the sign-up process. Entrants may review their selections and standings on showdown webpage.

Entrants must use their showdown profile information for sign-up and selection in the Contest. Entrants with showdown profiles with non-functioning email addresses will be eliminated.

The sign-up process for the showdown has four steps:

  1. Profile

    Enter your username and password in the contest section of the showdown main page.

  2. Profile Verification

    Verify the basic information in your Profile - Email Address, First Name, Last Name, Date of Birth and the subscription or non-subscription to publicity email lists - and input additional information: Mailing Address, City, State/Province, ZIP and Telephone Number.

  3. Official Rules Acknowledgement

    Entrants must agree to abide by these official rules (the “Official Rules”) for the showdown.

  4. Display Name

    Select a Display Name. This is the name that will be listed in the leader board.

How to Play

NYRA will announce on the showdown website the races chosen for the Contest. Contestant will log into the showdown website and select three horses for each race included in the Contest. By making his/her selections, Contestant is placing a mythical $2 Win bet on each horse selected, a mythical $1 Exacta Box bet on the selections, and a mythical $0.50 Trifecta Box bet on the selections. Those Contestants with the three (3) largest mythical winnings (“Bankroll”) at the end of the day will receive the Prizes set forth below:

First Place: All Contestants with the most mythical winnings

75,000 NYRA Bets points

Second Place: All Contestants with the second largest Bankroll

50,000 NYRA Bets points

Third Place: All Contestants with the third largest Bankroll

25,000 NYRA Bets points

How to Win

The Contestants with the top three (3) largest Bankrolls at the end of the day on December 2, 2017 will win NYRA Bets points redeemable for play at NYRABets.com.

Prizes/ Tiebreakers

In the event of a tie, each winning Contestant will receive the appropriate prize. By way of example, if ten (10) Contestants are eligible for the First Place prize, twenty (20) Contestants are eligible for the Second Place prize, and fifty (50) Contestants are eligible for Third Place prize, then NYRA will reward all ten (10) Contestants eligible for the First Place prize 75,000 NYRA Bets points, all twenty (20) Contestants eligible for the Second Place prize 50,000 NYRA Bets points, and all fifty (50) Contestants eligible for the Third Place prize 25,000 NYRA Bets points.

In the event of unavailability of any prize, NYRA reserves the right to substitute a prize of equal or greater value, as will be determined in NYRA’s sole and absolute discretion.

In the event an entrant's selection is a late scratch or declared a non-starter for pari-mutuel wagering purposes, the entrant will receive the actual betting favorite in that respective race.

In the event the entrant selects a horse that is part of a coupled entry or mutuel field, the entrant will receive both horses in the coupled entry. The entrant will only get credit for the best finisher. For example, if horse one (1) and horse one A (1 A) finish first and second respectively, the entrant will only get credit for a "Win".

Entrants cannot make more than one selection in the Contest. Selections are final.

Selections must be placed by the contestant only at the showdown website. The entrant is solely responsible for ensuring that his or her selection is correct. No changes will be made once deadline is passed (10 minutes before the first offered race).

In the event that racing is cancelled, the Contest will be cancelled. Any unforeseen circumstance will be judged by NYRA. All rulings are final.

General Conditions

The laws of the United States govern this contest. All Federal, State, provincial and local laws and regulations apply. By entering, participants release and hold harmless, NYRA, its sponsors, subsidiaries, affiliates, directors, trustees, officers, employees and agents from any and all liability for any injuries, loss or damage of any kind arising from or in connecting with any prize won. Winners are subject to all State and Federal Tax Requirements.

Conduct

These Official Rules will post on NYRA’s contest website: showdown throughout the Contest. By entering, the entrant agrees to be bound by these official rules and the decisions of NYRA, which shall be final and binding in all respects. Further, by entering, the entrant acknowledges that it will be subject to NYRA’s current website Terms & Conditions and Privacy Policies, as may be updated from time to time.

NYRA and its sponsors reserve the right to, at their sole discretion, disqualify any individual that: tampers or attempts to tamper with the entry process or the operation of the contest or website; violates the official rules; or acts in a disruptive manner, or with intent to annoy, abuse, threaten or harass any other person.

Notification

Winners will be notified by e-mail within 10 days after the date the winners are determined. Winners may be required to sign and return an affidavit of eligibility and acceptance of these official rules and a publicity/liability release (unless prohibited by law) within 5 business days following attempted notification.

By accepting any prize, the winner grants permission to NYRA use their names and/or likenesses for publicity and promotional purposes without further compensation, unless prohibited by law and agree to execute a written consent upon request.

In the event of a dispute about the identity of any entrant, entries made online will be declared made by the authorized account holder of the e-mail address submitted at the time of entry. "Authorized account holder" is defined as the natural person who is assigned to an email address by an Internet access provider, online service provider or other organization too is responsible for assigning email address for the domain associated with the submitted email address. A potential winner may be required to provide the sponsors with proof that the potential winner is the authorized account holder of the email address associated with the winning entry.

Judging and Disputes

NYRA reserves the rights to interpret all questions and conditions in regard to this event, without claim for damages or recourse of any kind. All questions and definitions not covered explicitly in these rules will be decided by NYRA with those decisions to be final.
